MATERIAL

( Roughly ) Chapters 1 through 11

EXAMS

Thursday, February 4, Thursday, March 18, Tuesday, April 20

FINAL

Thursday, May 6 at 9:00

QUIZZES

There will be frequent 10 minute quizzes.

SCORING

The lowest 20% ( two or three usually) of your quizzes will be dropped; the rest will be averaged, converted to a 100 point basis and counted as a fourth Exam. The best three ( out of four ) Exams will be 80% of your semester score. The Final will be the other 20%.

GRADES

The letter grade cutoffs will be no worse than:
90 - 100 = A; 85 - 89 = B+; 80 - 84 = B; 75 - 79 = C+; 70 - 74 = C; 65 - 69 = D+; 60 - 64 = D; 59 - 0 = F
Exams and Quizzes will not be "curved". However, once the semester score has been computed - after the final exam - it is possible that some of the letter grade cutoffs will be lowered.

MAKE-UPS

No make-up quizzes will be given. Except in extreme circumstances, any missed exam must be made up within one week of the day the exam was given. There must be a reasonable excuse for missing the exam and the excuse must be in writing.

HOMEWORK

This is an important part of the course. There will be no homework assignments to be handed in. However, at the end of most sessions you will be given a list of problems - these are the minimum that you should work. Some of these problems will be gone over in the next session. Practice is important. You should make sure to set aside some time every class day to work problems.

HELP

The Math Lab is a good place to work the assigned problems - there will be someone there to help if you get stuck. For more extensive help, see me. If my office hours do not fit your schedule something can be worked out - don't be afraid to come by. Don't let yourself fall behind.
