Get the news out about your event
-
Send useful information to the PME
Faculty Advisors and/or Webmaster.
See the PME/GMC
People homepage for their
contact information.
They can post your news on the PME/GMC homepage.
Do so as far in advance as is possible.
-
If you send information to the Gamecock early
enough, they will, space permitting, put it in the paper. Their email
is gamecockudesk@hotmail.com
-
Make flyers! Administrative staff in the math department
(LC 411) will
photocopy your flyers for you; just let them know it's for PME and give
her 24 hours. Post them around LeConte: eg:
-
in the PME/GMC bullentin board on 1st floor LeConte
(ask the administrative staff to borrow a key)
-
in the LC stairwells
-
in the undergraduate student lounge (LC 311)
-
If you would like to invite the math profs to an event
(such as the Initiation Ceremony),
then email
mathnews@math.sc.edu
and ask them to post it in the next newsletter for the
math professors. Do so by the Friday before the event since
the newsletter goes out early on Mondays.
-
The math dept alias for PME/GMC is
pmegmc@math.sc.edu .
You can send a notice to members using this alias,
which is updated typically shortly after the initiation ceremony.
(Notice that pme@math.sc.edu no longer works).
Reserving a room
-
If you use the Student Lounge (LC 311),
then you should reserve the room in the
garnet notebook labeled "Room
Assignments" in LC 411 (an admistrative staff memeber
can help you with this)
and also post a sign outside the
door (which also serves as on announcement) .
-
If you use LC 312 (for non-food fancy events): go
to LC 411 and reserve the room in the garnet notebook labeled "Room
Assignments" . An admistrative staff member will help.
-
-
If you use any other room: ask a faculty advisor to
reserve the room through the registrar's office's Space
Reservation and then reserve the room in the "Room Assignment"
notebook in LC 411. But first check Classroom
Availability to be sure it is free for that day.
Pizza
-
If you plan to serve pizza, call the local
delivery places to get a good price. A good guideline is about two
slices of pizza per person. Be sure to ask what the pizzas-to-pieces
conversion rate is, as it differs by place and size.
Be sure to ask other places if they can
cut you a deal as well.
-
Have the pizza delivered; the street address
for LeConte is 1523 Greene Street
and the student lounge is LC 311. Either a PME/GMC faculty advisor or
member can pay for it; they will be reimbursed.
-
We often use Domino Pizza at 1124 Devine
Street, 256-8151. If you tell them it's for a university function,
they might cut you a deal.
Tuesday is (was?) their 2-for1 night.
Soda
-
We have found that cans
of soda work better
than 2-liter bottles of soda.
A good quantity guideline is two liters of soda
for every ten people but so often too much
went to waste. Regular & Diet Coke or Pepsi and Sprite or 7-up
seem to go over best.
-
Get it early and cool it down.
You can put it in a box in the refrig in LC 311
(Prof. Girardi has done with with a sign on it
saying it was for PME/GMC so please do not get into it
and this worked).
You can also put it in the refrig in LC 316A
(near the elevator). The door to this room is
locked but you can ask a faculty member or graduate
student to use their office key to get into the room for you.
-
There is sometimes a supply of soda in an
office of a PME/GMC faculty advisor
(we stack up on it when we find it on sale)
so ask them if there is any left from a previous event.
Supplies
-
Paper plates, napkins, a cooler, and other supplies
(eg. a large serving bowl, kool-aid) live in boxes
in the offices of assorted PME/GMC faculty advisors.
So check with them early to see how the supplies
are holding up and, if needed, pick up some supplies.
Reimbursement
-
If you pay for pizza, soda, or supplies, PME?GMC will
reimburse you. Save your receipts - we need them to do taxes - and
give them to a PME/GMC faculty advisor. We'll write you a check in
return.
