The first quiz was on Thursday, January 19, on the two handouts that were distributed on Thursday, January 12.
The second quiz was on Thursday, January 26, on Sections 1.8 and 1.12,
The third quiz was on Tuesday, February 7, on the conversion of points between Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates. Handouts on Tuesday, January 31 and Thursday, February 2, covered this material.
There was a pop quiz on Thursday, March 9, on Jacobians. It will only be counted if it improves your grade, and the dropped quiz grade will not be for the pop quiz (nor absence, if you were absent).
The fifth quiz was on Thursday, March 23, on Section 3.1.
The sixth and last quiz is on Thursday, April 13, on line integrals, similar to problems on handout of Stewart's Section 16.2

The first test was on Tuesday, February 21. It covered the same material that the practice problems (see below) cover. The quizzes are also helpful in preparing for the test.
The second test was on March 31. It covered Sections 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 of the text, and the notes on change of coordinates from Anton's Calculus .

Textbook: Vector Analysis, Seventh Edition, by Davis and Snider, (2000) Hawkes Publishing

The course covers the following chapters and sections, with excerpts from other sections if needed, along with various handouts:
Highlights of Chapter 1, including detailed treatment of Sections 1.8, 1.9, 1.10, and 1.12.
Highlights of Chapter 2, with emphasis on 2.2, 2.3, and parts of 2.4
Sections 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, and parts of 3.5, 3.6, and 3.10; rest of Chapter 3 as time permits
Sections 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.7, 4.8, 4.9, and parts of 4.4 and 4.6.; rest of chapter as time permits.
Sections 5.4 and 5.7, supplemented with handouts on change of variables in multiple integrals.

Only simple calculators (in other words, those that may be used in taking SAT tests) are needed for this course, and they will be needed only a small fraction of the time, outside of class. Neither the quizzes, nor the tests, nor the final exam will require their use, although they may save some time on a few problems. Programmable calculators are not permitted for quizzes, tests, or the final exam.

The course grade will be based on quizzes, homework, three tests, a final exam, and attendance. Details on this and on various policies can be found here.

Learning Outcomes: Students will master concepts and solve problems based upon the topics covered in the course, including the following: vector fields, line and path integrals, orientation and parametrization of lines and surfaces, differentiation of vector fields, change of variables in double and triple integrals, Jacobians, oriented surface integrals, theorems of Green, Gauss, and Stokes.
