Text: Calculus in Context by James Callahan & Kenneth Hoffman

Technology: We will use Maple to help us explore the concepts learned in class. In fact, a significant portion of the homework, quizzes, and exams will require its use. We will also use the World-Wide Web as a means of distributing course information. The URL is http://www.math.sc.edu/~murphy/teaching/

Grade Info: There will be three exams and one cumulative final exam. Homework will be assigned and collected nearly every day. Not all of these will count toward your grade, but you are expected to do each problem assigned. At least 12 quizzes will be given during the semester. The ten highest quiz scores will be counted.

  Dates:
  Participation: 25 every day
Group Projects: 75 2 or 3 during the semester
  Homework: 100 nearly every day
Quizzes: 100 about once per week
  Exam 1: 100 Thursday, February 6
  Exam 2: 100 Thursday, March 6
  Exam 3: 100 Thursday, April 17
Final Exam: 150 Wednesday, April 30 (9 am - noon)
  TOTAL: 750

Final Grade:
A 690 - 750
B+ 650 - 689
B 610 - 649
C+ 570 - 609

C 530 - 569
D+ 500 - 529
D 450 - 499
F 0 - 449

Make-up policy: No make-up exams, quizzes, or homework will be given. Only {medical, death in the family, religious, official USC business} reasons are valid excuses for missing an exam and must be verified by letter from {doctor, guardian, supervisor} to instructor. In the case of an excused exam, the score on the final exam will replace the missed exam.

Help is available: Working together on homework assignments is a great way to learn mathematics so I encourage this. You may also wish to use the Math Lab's free tutoring service (LC 101, MTWTh: 1 pm - 8 pm, F: 1 pm - 3 pm).
