DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
Week 1 (Classes begin Monday, Friday is the last day to drop without a grade of W)
Jan 12 (M) We reviewed derivative rules and logarithm rules. For logarithm rules, you should read section 7.1. No computer labs will be held this week, but they will be mandatory every Tuesday beginning Jan. 20.
Jan 14 (W) Read sections 7.1-7.2. Do #5, 6, 8, 13, 14, 18, 19, 21, 25, 26, 44 from 7.1. We will have a quiz Friday on 7.1. You can ask questions about the homework tomorrow during recitation. The quiz will be based heavily upon the homework.
Jan 15 (Th) Elizabeth went over 7.1 homework problems
Jan 16 (F) Read 7.2. Do #1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 16, 23, 27, 29, 33, 34, 37, 40 from 7.2. Today's quiz was a take-home quiz due Tuesday during your computer lab. You can get a copy of the quiz at our course webpage. Note: At the end of class today, I explained geometrically how to determine the derivative for an inverse function. This was correct, but when I wrote down the formula, I may have used 'x' instead of 'y' as one of the inputs. Read the end of 7.2 carefully to be sure you understand it correctly.
Week 2 (Monday is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day)
Jan 20 (Tu) Computer Lab - first Maple quiz. due Friday, Jan. 23, 11:00 PM. You can retake the quiz as often as you like so you should all get a perfect score of '5' this time.
Jan 21 (W) Read 7.3 - 7.4. From 7.3 do #3, 6, 9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 23, 30, 32, 33, 35.
Jan 22 (Th)  
Jan 23 (F) Read 7.4 - 7.5. From 7.4 do #13, 14, 15, 16. From 7.5 do #3, 5, 7, 8, 11, 13. There will be a quiz Monday on 7.2 - 7.3. There will be a test Thursday on 7.1 - 7.5.
Week 3
Jan 26 (M) USC closed due to severe weather. Quiz cancelled.
Jan 27 (Tu) Computer Lab - lab cancelled since USC closed until noon.
Jan 28 (W) Due to Monday's missed class, the test will postponed until Friday. For some of the problems you will not be allowed to use a calculator. Some additional problems to look at from 7.5 are #9, 12, 17, 19, 20, 22. We'll have a help session tomorrow night.
Jan 29 (Th) Help session tonight from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM in LC412.
Jan 30 (F) Test 1
Week 4
Feb 2 (M) Read 7.7 and start looking over your first lab project. From 7.7, do #1, 3, 5, 20, 22, 23, 29, 30, 36, 39, 44, 50, 53, 55, 57.
Feb 3 (Tu) Computer Lab
Feb 4 (W) Do the problems from 7.7 and read 7.8. We'll have a quiz on Monday covering 7.7 and a bit of 7.8.
Feb 5 (Th)  
Feb 6 (F) Read 8.1. From 8.1 do at least 20 of the problems #1-54. We'll have a quiz Monday on 7.7. Be sure to work significantly on your lab project before Tuesday's Maple lab. You will have the opportunity then to ask Elizabeth about minor portions of the project that you're struggling with.
Week 5
Feb 9 (M) Read 8.2. From 8.2 do #3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 16. We'll have a quiz on 8.1-8.2 on Thursday.
Feb 10 (Tu) Computer Lab
Feb 11 (W) No new homework. Quiz tomorrow on 8.1-8.2.
Feb 12 (Th)  
Feb 13 (F) Read 8.3. Finish the current problems from 8.2 and also do #1, 2, 17, 19, 25. From 8.3 do #1, 9, 10, 11, 12, 17, 19. We'll have a test on Thursday.
Week 6
Feb 16 (M) Thursday's test will cover 7.7, 8.1-8.4. A help session is scheduled for Wednesday from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. For 8.4, you should do #1-8, 11-15, 17, 19.
Feb 17 (Tu) Computer Lab
Feb 18 (W) Help session tonight from 7:00PM-9:00PM; No calculators for tomorrow's test; The test will cover 7.7, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4. For 8.2, if I give a problem like #13, 14, or 16, I'll also give you the formulas from the bottom of page 378. From 8.3, I will not ask a question like #17 or 19 which involves completing the square. From 8.4, you will only need to be able to apply integration by parts one time. For all sections you should look at the homework assignments to get an idea of the type of problems I will ask.
Feb 19 (Th) Test 2
Feb 20 (F) Read 8.5. From 8.1 do #47, 48. From 8.4 do #41, 43, 45, 47, 49. From 8.5 do #3, 5, 7, 17, 19, 21, 27.
Week 7 (Monday is the last day to drop without a grade of WF)
Feb 23 (M) Finish up the 8.5 homework.
Feb 24 (Tu) Computer Lab
Feb 25 (W) Read 9.1 and 9.2. From 9.1 do #1-19 odd. From 9.2 do #1-7 odd. Quiz tomorrow on 8.5. Quiz Monday on 9.1-9.2.

Feb 27 (F) Read 9.3. From 9.2 do #11, 13, 15, 19, 23, 25, 30, 31, 35, 37. Quiz Monday on 9.1-9.2.
Week 8
Mar 1 (M) Read 9.3-9.4. From 9.3 do #3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 25, 26. Today's quiz (#5) was a take-home which will be due Wednesday at the beginning of class. Go back to our course webpage for a copy.
Mar 2 (Tu) Computer Lab
Mar 3 (W) From 9.4 do #1, 3, 7, 8, 13, 21, 23. There will be a take-home quiz on 9.3-9.4 distributed tomorrow and due at the beginning of Friday's class.
Mar 4 (Th) The take-home quiz (#6) is available online from our course webpage.
Mar 5 (F) There will be a test Thursday after break. It will include sections 10.1-10.2 so be sure to read these sections before we return. You should do at least 5 problems from each section. Have a good break!

Mar 15 (M) From 10.1 do #1, 3, 21, 22. From 10.2 do #1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 23. Thursday's test will cover sections 8.4, 8.5, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, 10.1, 10.2. There will be a help session Wednesday from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM in LeConte 412.

Mar 19 (F) Read 10.3 and do #3, 5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 20, 22, 25. For Monday's quiz you will be asked to write down word-for-word the statement of the Integral Test. This is Theorem B on page 444.
Week 11
Mar 22 (M) Read 10.4 and do #1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 15, 20, 26, 29. For Wednesday's quiz you will be asked to write down word-for-word the statement of the Simplified Limit Comparison Test. You will also have one problem like the homework in 10.3 and 10.4. My wording for the Simplified Limit Comparison Test can be found on my handout about series.
Mar 23 (Tu) Computer Lab
Mar 24 (W) No new homework. Today's quiz was cancelled. Instead you will have a take-home quiz handed out on Thursday and due at the beginning of Friday's class. It will have problems like the homework from 10.2-10.4. You will be expected to give very clearly written reasons, stating specifically which test you are using and why it shows that the given series converges or diverges.

Mar 26 (F) Read 10.5 and do #2, 3, 7, 10, 13, 15, 19, 35. There will be a quiz Wednesday on this section.
Week 12
Mar 29 (M) Read 10.6 and do #3, 5, 7, 11, 15, 17, 19. There will be a quiz Wednesday on 10.5.
Mar 30 (Tu) Computer Lab
Mar 31 (W) Read 10.7. Do #2e, 3, 4 from the quiz 8 handout (these are not to turn in). Finish the problems from 10.6. Today's quiz on 10.5 will be postponed until tomorrow. There will also be a quiz Friday on 10.6.

Apr 5 (M) Finish 10.7 problems. Read 10.8 and 11.1. In 10.8, do #1, 3, 7. We will have a quiz Thursday on 10.7-11.1. Our test one week from Thursday will cover sections 10.1-10.8, 11.1, and 11.3.

Apr 7 (W) In 11.1, do #1, 3, 5, 7. Tomorrow's quiz on 10.7, 10.8, and 11.1 will be a take-home quiz.

Apr 19 (M) Read sections 12.6-12.7. From 12.6 do #5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 22. For your last Maple project, read about the error (or remainder) term associated with Taylor polynomials from section 10.8. Notice that there is a typo on page 468 in the blue box where it should start out f(x)=f(a)+f'(a)(x-a)+... The book mistakenly wrote f(x)=f(a)-f'(a)(x-a)+...

Apr 21 (W) Read 12.8. In 12.7 do #13, 17, 21, 23, 27, 31, 33, 35. There will be a take-home quiz distributed tomorrow covering section 12.6-12.7.
