Week 1 (Classes begin Thursday - lab dates are T or Th but have not been set yet
Aug. 22 (F) Review chapter 1. Read 2.1. From 2.1 do #1, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 31, 35, 36.
Week 2 (Wednesday is the last day to drop without a grade of W)
Aug. 25 (M) Read 2.2 and 2.3. From 2.2 do #1, 5, 13, 15, 33. From 2.3 do #1, 2, 10, 12, 14. From the handout in class, step through the sections entitled "USC Network Setup" and "Accessing Blackboard".
Aug. 26 (T) Lab assignment #1 should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 3:30pm (sect. 4), 5:00pm (sect. 5), or 6:30pm (sect. 6)
Aug. 27 (W) Read 2.4 very carefully.
Aug. 29 (F) Read 2.5 - 2.6 (2.5 is optional). From 2.4 do #1, 5, 7, 8, 12, 15, 18, 19, 23, 29. From 2.6 do #6, 11, 15, 21, 25.
Week 3 (Labor Day - Monday)
Sept. 2 (T) Lab assignment #2 should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 3:30pm (sect. 4), 5:00pm (sect. 5), or 6:30pm (sect. 6). The due date for lab assignment #1 has been extended so that it is now due the same time as lab assignment #2.
Sept. 3 (W) Read 2.7 - 2.8. From 2.7 do #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. From 2.8 do #2, 5, 10, 22, 25, 40, 49abc. We will have a quiz Friday on sections 2.1-2.4, 2.6 concentrated most heavily on sections 2.4 and 2.6.
Sept. 5 (F) Read 2.9 and 3.1. From 2.9 do #1, 10, 11, 12, 18, 19, 20.
Week 4
Sept. 8 (M) Read 3.1 carefully. Logon to Blackboard to read through tomorrow's lab before class.
Sept. 9 (T) Lab assignment #3 should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 11:59pm
Sept. 10 (W) Read 3.1 and 3.2. From 3.1 do #1, 4, 9, 12, 13, 14, 17, 21, 22, 26. From 3.2 do #4, 7, 10, 13, 19, 23, 24, 37, 41. There will be a quiz Friday on sections 2.7-2.9. No calculators will be allowed for the quiz. Our first test will be one week from Friday.
Sept. 12 (F) Finish problems from 3.2 and read 3.3.
Week 5
Sept. 15 (M) From 3.3, do #1-43 odd. There will be help sessions Wednesday and Thursday night for Friday's test.
Sept. 16 (T) Lab assignment #4 should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 11:59pm
Sept. 17 (W) Friday's test will cover sections 2.4, 2.6-2.9, 3.1-3.3. Bring a calculator but for portions of the test you will be disallowed to use your calculator. This test will not cover the product rule and quotient rule from section 3.3. So for the homework, I would only concentrate on #1-32. For some of these you may have to rewrite the expression or multiply first before you can apply the basic differentation rules. If you already know the product rule or the quotient rule, you may use them on the test but may not receive any partial credit if you use them incorrectly. Tonight's help session is from 7-9pm in LC412. Tomorrow's help session is from 7:30-9:30pm in LC412.
Sept. 19 (F) Test 1
Week 6
Sept. 22 (M) Finish the odd problems #1-43 from section 3.3. In section 3.4 do #1-13 odd. In section 3.5 start #1-27 odd. There will be a quiz Friday covering sections 3.3-3.4. There will be another quiz next Monday or Wednesday covering at least section 3.5.
Sept. 23 (T) Lab assignment #5 should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 11:59pm
Sept. 24 (W) Finish the problems from 3.3-3.5. Friday's quiz will be given as a take-home.
Sept. 26 (F) From 3.6 do #9-23 odd. From 3.7 do #1-15 odd. Today's take-home quiz is due at the beginning of Monday's class. In class on Monday we will also have a quiz on section 3.5.
Week 7 (Thursday is the last day to drop without a grade of WF)
Sept. 29 (M) In 3.3 do #45, 49, 51, 53, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 61. In 3.4 do #18 (see ex. 3), 21, 22, 23, 24. In 3.5 do #32, 42, 43, 46. In 3.6 do #26, 31, 32.
Sept. 30 (T) Tomorrow's lab assignment will be an in-class Maple quiz.
Oct. 1 (W) In 3.7 do #29-39 odd. Read 3.8 and try a few problems.
Oct. 3 (F) We will have a quiz Monday with two questions. One question will involve tangent lines (for practice look at section 3.3: #49, 51, 53, 57, 58, 59, section 3.4: #21, 22, 23). The other question will deal with how quickly some quantity is changing (for practice look at section 3.3: #61, section 3.4: #18, section 3.5: #42, 43, 46, section 3.6: #31, 32).
Week 8
Oct. 6 (M) In 3.8 do #1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 11, 13, 14, 15, 21, 23, 25, 27, 33, 37, 38. We will have a quiz on sections 3.7-3.8 on Friday.
Oct. 7 (T) The lab assignment entitled Implicit Differentation should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 11:59pm
Oct. 8 (W) Read 3.9 and 4.1. In 3.9 do #2, 3, 13, 17, 29. Friday's quiz will cover 3.7-3.9. We will also have a quiz next Friday.
Oct. 10 (F) Finish problems from 3.9 and read 4.1 carefully.
Week 9 (Fall Break - Monday and Tuesday)
Oct. 15 (W) In 4.1 do #2, 5, 6, 10, 12, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 31. Read 4.2. Friday's quiz will be a take-home quiz on 3.9 and 4.1.
Oct. 17 (F) Read 4.2 carefully. Quiz #7 is a take-home quiz due Monday. I included a lot of problems for practice, but you should only turn in #3 and #4. The question in #9 should say How fast is the height growing when the pile is 5 feet high?. A copy of the quiz can be found online at our course webpage.
Week 10
Oct. 20 (M) Read 4.3. In 4.2 do #5, 9, 13, 15, 21, 29, 31. In 4.3 do #1, 9, 17, 25. Friday's test will cover sections 3.3-3.9, 4.1, and possibly 4.2-4.3. I'll give complete details on Wednesday.
Oct. 21 (T) The lab assignment entitled Max/Min and Graphing Problems should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 11:59pm
Oct. 22 (W) Friday's test will cover sections 3.3-3.9 and 4.1. Bring a calculator. The test will be in two parts. For part 1, worth 65 points, you will not be allowed to use a calculator. Part 1 covers the derivative rules, including those for the trig. functions, higher order derivatives, implicit differentation, and tangent lines. For part 2, worth 35 points, you may use a calculator. Part 2 covers position-velocity-acceleration problems from 3.7, related rates problems from 3.9, and max/min problems from 4.1. Tonight's help session is from 6-8pm in LC412.

Oct. 27 (M) Reread 4.2. Read 4.3 and 4.7. In 4.2 do #13-16, 30-31. In 4.3 do #7-10.
Oct. 28 (T) The lab assignment entitled Mean Value Theorem for Derivatives should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 11:59pm
Oct. 29 (W) Read 5.1. From 5.1 do #1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 14, 17, 19, 20, 21, 24, 26, 28, 29, 31, 33. We will have a quiz Monday on section 5.1.
Oct. 31 (F) Read 5.2. From 5.2 do #1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11. Monday's quiz will cover 5.1 only.
Week 12
Nov. 3 (M) Read 5.3. From 5.2 do #21, 23, 26, 29. From 5.3 do #1, 3, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 18, 21, 23, 25, 26, 29.
Nov. 4 (T) The lab assignment entitled Antiderivatives should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 11:59pm
Nov. 5 (W) Read 5.4. From 5.4 do #1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9.
Nov. 7 (F) Read 5.4-5.5 very carefully. From 5.4 do #11, 12, 14, 15, 20. Monday's quiz will be on 5.3-5.4.
Week 13
Nov. 10 (M) Read 5.7. In 5.7 do #1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29.
Nov. 11 (T) The lab assignment is a Maple quiz and should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 11:59pm
Nov. 12 (W) Read 5.8 and try 5-10 of the definite integrals from this section. There will be a quiz Friday covering 5.7-5.8 on definite integrals. Tomorrow's office hours will be canceled.
Nov. 14 (F) Read 5.8 and 6.1. From 5.8 do #1, 15, 17, 19, 28, 31, 32, 37, 45, 47, 48, 49. From 6.1 do #2, 4, 7, 9, 23, 26, 29. Do the problems from the handout entitled area practice problems. Today's quiz (#10) is a take-home quiz due at the beginning of Monday's class. On Monday I will pass out another take-home quiz on section 6.1.
Week 14
Nov. 17 (M) Friday's test will cover up to section 6.1. The help session will be Thursday from 7:30PM-9:30PM in LC412. Today's quiz (#11) is a take-home quiz due at the beginning of Monday's class. You can also still work on quiz #10 as long as you turn it in before the end of today -- either put it in my mailbox across the hall from LC412 or slide it under my office door in LC400H.
Nov. 18 (T) The lab assignment entitled Area of a Plane Region should be submitted via Blackboard by Wed. at 11:59pm
Nov. 19 (W) Friday's test will cover 5.1 - 5.8 and 6.1. The portion on antiderivatives, integrals, and sums will be worth roughly 65 points and no calculators will be allowed. The remaining calculator portion will be on Riemann sums, the connection between position, velocity, and acceleration, and the connection between areas and definite integrals. There is a help session Thursday from 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM in LC412. You can pick up the last graded quiz then or during my office hours Thursday from 10:00 AM - Noon in LC400H.
Nov. 21 (F) Test 3
