Week 1 (Classes begin Monday, Friday is the last day to drop without a grade of W)
Jan. 14 (M) Read 1.1, 1.2, and page xii from the Preface. Do #1, 4, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14 from section 1.1, and start #2, 5, 7, 10, 13, 14 from section 1.2. For 2 bonus points, send me email and turn in the Student Info Sheet by Friday, Jan. 25.
Jan. 16 (W) Finish 1.2 problems. Read 1.3 and do #1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 16, 20, 21, 22 from 1.3.  
Jan. 18 (F) Finish 1.3 problems. Learn how to make a table of values on your calculator. For the TI-82 and TI-83 calculators, you enter a function using the [ Y= ] button, set-up a table with the [ 2nd ] - [ TBLSET ] button, and then display your table of values with the [ 2nd ] - [ TABLE ] button. The TI-85 cannot generate tables, so you will have to make your tables by hand. The TI-86 can do tables, but you'll have to look in your manual to see how to do this. Quiz next Friday on sections 1.1-1.3 and making a table of values for a function.
Week 2 (Monday is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day)
Jan. 23 (W) Read 1.4. Do #1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10 from 1.4. Bring calculator to Friday's class and send me email before Friday as part of your bonus points. Quiz on Friday will cover sections 1.1-1.3.
Jan. 25 (F) Read 1.6. Finish the 1.4 problems and do #1, 2, 5, 7, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 25 from section 1.6.  
Week 3
Jan. 28 (M) Read 1.7. Finish the 1.6 problems, and do #1-11 from section 1.7.  
Jan. 30 (W) Finish 1.7 problems and read 1.8. Quiz Friday on sections 1.4 and 1.6.
Feb. 1 (F) Do #33, 34, 37, 38, 40 as well as #3-14 from section 1.8.  
Week 4
Feb. 4 (M) Read 1.9 and do #1, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 20 from 1.9  
Feb. 6 (W) Quiz Friday on 1.7-1.9

Feb. 18 (M) Read 2.3 and 2.4. Do #1, 13, 15, 17, 26, 27, 28, 32 from 2.3. Do #1, 2, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15 from 2.4.  
Feb. 20 (W) The tests were returned and discussed.  
Feb. 22 (F) Read 2.5 and 2.6. Do #1-5, 8, 15, 16 from 2.5. Do #1-3, 6, 9-13 from 2.6. Given a formula for a function f(x), we discussed how to use "nDeriv" on your calculator to quickly approximate f'(1), f'(2), f'(2.5), etc. You should be able to use this or some other technique for Monday's quiz when you need to find the derivative at various x-values. You can find "nDeriv" under [MATH] on the TI-83 or TI-82. It's called "nDer" on the TI-85 and can be found under [2ND]-[CALC]. Monday's quiz will cover section 2.3 and 2.4.
Week 7 (Monday is the last day to drop without a grade of WF)
Feb. 25 (M) Finish the problems from 2.5 and 2.6.  
Feb. 27 (W) Read 4.1. Do #1-21, 22, 27, 32-34, 36, 37, 43 from 4.1. Quiz Monday will likely cover 2.5, 2.6, and 4.1. I'll announce more definitely on Friday.
Mar. 1 (F) Monday's quiz will cover only sections 2.5 and 4.1. The 4.1 problems will be like #1-21 from that section. We will have another quiz on Friday. Be sure to finish all problems from 4.1, and begin looking at #1-21 from section 4.2. This is a very bad time to get behind in your studies. These derivative rules take lots of practice!
Week 8
Mar. 4 (M) Read 4.2 and 4.3. Do #1-21, 27, 30, 37 from 4.2. Do #1-30, 34, 35, 37 from 4.3. You no longer have to do #32, 33 from 4.1.  
Mar. 6 (W) Read 4.4. Do #3-26, 29 from 4.4. A take-home quiz was given today and is due at the beginning of Friday's class. It is also available online.

Apr. 5 (F) Read 3.4 and 3.5. Do #4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 18 from 3.4. Do #1, 2, 3, 6 from 3.5. Finish all problems from handout. Quiz Monday on section 3.3. Another quiz next Friday.
Week 13
Apr. 8 (M) Read 6.5 and do #1-7, 10, 13, 16, 34-38, 42, 43, 45 from 6.5. Today's quiz (#8) was a take-home quiz which will be due at the beginning of Wednesday's class. Go to our course home page if you need a copy

Apr. 12 (F) For Monday's quiz, you should be able to state the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus (both in words and using functional notation), and you should be able to apply the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus to problems like the homework from sections 3.4 and 3.5. Our next (and last topic) before the test will be regression (i.e. best-fitting curves)
Week 14
Apr. 15 (M) Read pages 103-107. Do #1, 2, 3, 6, and 8 from pages 108-109. You will need the regression handout for the TI-82, the TI-83, the TI-85, the TI-86, or the TI-92 Quiz Friday on 6.5-6.6.

Apr. 22 (M) Wednesday's test will cover sections 3.1 - 3.5, 6.5 - 6.6, and regression from pages 103-111. The regression handouts for the various TI calculators (82, 83, 85, 86 (no graphs), and 92) will be available to you during the test, so you don't have to memorize which buttons to push. There will be a help session Tuesday night at 8:00 PM in LeConte 412.

May 1 (W) For the final exam, I suggest first going over all your tests and then all your quizzes. The final exam will be similar in its level of difficulty. Help sessions for both of my sections are Thursday 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM in LeConte 412, and Monday 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM in LeConte 412. I will also have office hours Friday 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM and Tuesday 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Your final exam is on Wednesday, 9:00 AM - noon, LC 412. You should have already signed up if you wanted to take it early on Saturday, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, LC 412.
