DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
Week 1 (USC classes begin Thursday)
Aug 19 (F) Read page xiii from the preface as well as sections 1.1 and 1.2. In 1.1 do #1, 3, 5, 12, 14, 16. In 1.2 do #4, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16. Get a graphing calculator by Wednesday of next week. If you don't already own one, I suggest any of the TI-83 or TI-84 calculators.
Week 2 (Wednesday is the last day to drop without a grade of W)
Aug 22 (M) No new homework.
Aug 24 (W) Read section 1.3 and do #6, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 24, 30 from that section. Get a calculator! Our first quiz will be on Monday.
Aug 26 (F) Read section 1.5. Monday's quiz will cover sections 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 only. It will no longer cover section 1.5. Bring a calculator. The quiz will be similar to the homework problems and, as mentioned in class, will include one easy problem on the terms "concave up" and "concave down".
Week 3
Aug 29 (M) In section 1.5, do #2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11.
Aug 31 (W) Finish problems from section 1.5. Learn to use the TABLE feature on your graphing calculator.
Sep 2 (F) Read section 1.6 and do #4, 6, 10, 22, 23, 26, 27, 36, 37 from that section. There will be a quiz next Friday on sections 1.5-1.6.
Week 4 (Labor Day - Monday)
Sep 7 (W) Read section 1.7 and do #4, 6, 9, 11, 14, 16, 21, 29, 32 from that section. There will be an in-class quiz Friday on sections 1.5-1.6.
Sep 9 (F) Finish the problems from section 1.7 and read section 1.4.
Week 5
Sep 12 (M) There will be a quiz Wednesday on section 1.7.
Sep 14 (W) Read section 1.4.
Sep 16 (F) Do #2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17 from section 1.4. Read section 2.1.
Week 6
Sep 19 (M) Read section 2.2. From 2.1 do #1, 2, 5, 10, 14, 15, 19. From 2.2 do #14, 16, 19, 23, 25, 26. Monday's test will cover up to section 2.2.
Sep 21 (W) No new homework.
Sep 23 (F) Monday's test will cover sections 1.1-1.7 and 2.1-2.2. There will be 15-20 questions (possibly a few more) including some multiple-choice. If you have any questions about the material, I will have a help session Sunday from 1:00pm-2:30pm in LeConte 412. Monday office hours for next week have been moved to 1:00pm-2:00pm. Bring a calculator!

Sep 30 (F) Read section 2.3 and do #1-10 from that section. Read pages 129-130 and the top half of page 160.
Week 8
Oct 3 (M) We'll have a quiz Wednesday on section 2.3. For homework, read sections 3.1 and 3.2. In 3.1 do #1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 27, 31, 33, 37, 43, 49.
Oct 5 (W) In section 3.2 do #1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 24, 28, 29, 31.
Oct 7 (F) Read section 3.3 and do #1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29 from that section. We'll have a quiz (no calculators!) Monday on sections 3.1 and 3.2.
Week 9 (Fall Break - Thursday and Friday)
Oct 10 (M) Today's quiz was given as a take-home due next Monday. For homework, just keep getting more practice using the derivative rules from sections 3.1-3.3. You should especially get the chain rule down by doing the problems in section 3.3. If you want to get ahead, you can read section 3.4 on the product and quotient rules and try #1-27 odd. However, this won't officially be assigned until next Monday. Wednesday's class is cancelled, but I will hold an extra evening help session next week.

Week 10
Oct 17 (M) Read section 3.4. Do all the odd problems from 1-27. We'll have a quiz Wednesday on sections 3.3-3.4. I'll have an extra help session Tuesday night at 7:00PM in LeConte 412.
Oct 19 (W) Today's quiz was given as a take-home due at the beginning of Friday's class.
Oct 21 (F) Monday's test will cover sections 2.3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4. No calculators will be allowed on the test. If you have not picked one of your quizzes (including quiz 6), you can get it at the help session scheduled for Sunday from 1:00PM-2:30PM in LeConte 412.
Week 11
Oct 24 (M) Test 2
Oct 26 (W) Read section 5.1. Do #4, 7, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15 from 5.1.
Oct 28 (F) Read section 5.2 and finish the problems assigned from 5.1.
Week 12
Oct 31 (M) In 5.2 do #2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 11. There will be a quiz Wednesday on section 5.1.
Nov 2 (W) Finish the problems from 5.2.
Nov 4 (F) Read section 5.3 and do #1-11 from the worksheet.
Week 13
Nov 7 (M) Read section 5.4. In 5.3 do #4, 5, 6, 7, 15, 18, 22. There will be a quiz Wednesday covering (1) the connection between definite integrals and area, (2) using the built-in integrator on your calculator, (3) using Riemann sums to approximate the value of definite integrals.
Nov 9 (W) Read section 5.5. In 5.4 do #1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 17.
Nov 11 (F) In 5.5 do #3, 6, 8. There will be a take-home quiz on sections 5.3-5.5 distributed Monday and due Wednesday. Our next test is one week from Monday.
Week 14
Nov 14 (M) Today's quiz was given as a take-home due at the beginning of Wednesday's class.
Nov 16 (W)  
Nov 18 (F) Monday's test will cover sections 5.1-5.5 and a little bit of chapter 4. Specifically for chapter 4, if you are given a quantity f(x) you should know that its rate of change is given by f'(x). If f(x) is given as a formula, then you should know the basic derivative rules for x^n, ln(x), e^x, and e^(kx) well enough to determine a formula for f'(x). You should know how to do all assigned homework, as well as the problems from worksheet 1 and quizzes 6, 7, and 8. Sunday's help session will be from 1:00-2:30pm in LeConte 412.
Week 15 (Thanksgiving Break - Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday)

Nov 30 (W) Do the problems from worksheet 2. Read section 4.4 and do #3, 4, 5 from that section.
Dec 2 (F) The final exam is cumulative and about twice the length of a normal test. The content of the exam will be based upon your previous tests and quizzes. There will also be one problem based upon section 4.4 and the cost/revenue questions on worksheet 2. There will not be a help session, but you can get free tutoring in the Math Lab.
