For text material on non-linear discrete systems (several variables), see E-K sections 2.7, and for a preview of things to come, section 3.2 or Hastings chapter 9. The papers by May and by May and Oster give a nice exposition of the material as well, and are of major historical significance.
E-K page 62, problems 3, 4, 10, 11 are worth a look.
