Apr 6-8: Nicholson-Bailey host-parasitoid model, first project reports (conclusion)

  • FIRST PROJECT ORAL REPORTS (final written version due Apr 6)
  • Be sure to step through chaos.mws and may.mws to understand non-linear dynamics in a single species
  • Then go on to blowflies.mws to see the dynamics of a 2-species non-linear system
  • For text material on non-linear discrete systems (several variables), see E-K sections 2.7, and for a preview of things to come, section 3.2 or Hastings chapter 9. The papers by May and by May and Oster give a nice exposition of the material as well, and are of major historical significance.
  • E-K page 62, problems 3, 4, 10, 11 are worth a look.
