Jan 28-30: Systems: box models and predator-prey

This week

  • Work on the lead metabolism problem in E-K and the associated Maple worksheet lead.mws
  • Understand the processs of bringing an equation to dimensionless form, and why one might want to do this. See E-K page 152, problem 13ab
  • Do the Maple worksheet volterra.mws
  • Continue to work on E-K page 152, problem 25a-f
  • Read E-K pp 210-223 (ignore stuff on Jacobians for now)
  • For next week

  • Read E-K pp 224-231 (predator-prey) reasonably seriously and pp 242-254 (S-I-R models) just for the overall ideas
  • Work on E-K p 258, problems 7, 8, 9a, 13, 31
  • To be collected Wed (Feb 5) E-K p 265, problem 31 and answers to questions *** blah blah blah **** on the Volterra Maple worksheet
  • Read Volterra's own account of what he did (handout)
