Workshop #1 -- Introduction to Maple Maple is a computer algebra system that can be change the way you teach calculus by emphasizing the concepts and de-emphasizing the mechanical manipulations. In this hands-on introduction to Maple, you will learn how to use Maple to graph functions, solve equations, and manipulate equations. Workshop #2 -- Using Maple to Create Visual Resources for Calculus Maple's graphics routines support plotting in 2-D and in 3-D, including animations. Learn how to plot points, curves, and surface, and how to combine these to create effective animations. Specific examples will include the animation of (i) secant lines converging to the tangent line, (ii) Riemann sums converging to the area under a curve, and (iii) the "shrinking circle problem" and other geometric limit problems. Workshop #3 -- Teaching Calculus with Maple There are many models for using Maple in the classroom. Attendees of this workshop will be able to see several different ways Maple can be used to enhance a course. Several different forms of course materials will be shared, including supplemental worksheets, web-based "maplets" (Maple applets), and electronic texts implemented as Maple worksheets. This workshop will include a demonstration of the presenter's efforts to bridge the language barrier by (almost) automating the translation of maplets for non-English users
