Calculus. Hughes-Hallet, Gleason, Lock, Flath, et al., Wiley, 3rd ED.,
2006
Prerequisites:
Qualification through
placement or a grade of C or better in Math 111 or 115
Student
learning outcomes: We will
review exponential, logarithmic, and elementary algebraic functions at
begnning. After the first test, students will learn the concepts of
differentiation and integration in order to analyze the behaviors of above
functions and obtain some information from these functions such as maxima,
minima, rate of change, area under a curve, and volume. Furthermore, students
will learn how to model and solve real world problems (economics, business,
physics, and biology, etc.) by using mathematical tools.
Calculator:
You need a graphing
calculator. TI-83 or TI-84 is strongly recommended. A calculator with a
computer algebra system, like TI-89, is NOT allowed.
Attendance:
Attendance is expected.
Bonus credits might be given to students who try hard to come to class. For
example, after a long break or on a
bad weather day.
Homework
policy: Homework will be
assigned, but wonˇ¦t be collected. However, most problems in quizzes and tests
will come from the homework problems.
Grading
policy:
|
1. Quizzes and/or Class assignments 2. Each test (Three times) 3. Final Exam *(Optional) Total Letter grades will be given according
to the following scale:
|
100 100 100** 400 |
*Final exam is accumulated. **Student who already got more than 90%
of item 1, 2 could decide not to take the final exam. If a student decides to the final exam, the score of the final exam
will be substituted to the lowest score of the three tests whenever it is
higher than the lowest one. |
Academic
Honesty: Any student
caught cheating in quizzes, tests, or final exams will receive an F for the
course. I may also refer the case to the Office of Academic Integrity.
