Please note that NO extra credit work will be assigned. You grade will be based solely on you homework, tests, and final.

 

Homework:              There are approximately 455 homework problems for the semester.  This may be modified during the semester.   Homework is generally assigned on Sunday and is due Saturday night at midnight.  You can continue working on the homework assignment until all homework is correct or the due date has passed.   The Homework is worth 20% of your grade.

 

Non-Proctored Online Quizzes:  There a six non-proctored online quizzes.  You are allowed an unlimited number of attempts until the due date on each quiz and your best score will be taken.  Each non-proctored online quiz is worth 5% of your grade or the 6 Non-proctored online quizzes are 30% total.

 

Note:  Homework and Non-Proctored Online Quizzes comprise 50% of your grade. 

 

Proctored Tests:  Three proctored tests will be given during the semester.  The test will be given on Tuesday, September 27, Tuesday, November 1 at and Tuesday, November 22 during the normally schedule class period.  The three proctored tests are each worth 10% of your grade. 

 

Your final will also be proctored and will be given on :

 

December 7 at 2:00 pm for Section 007

December 6 at 5:30 pm for Section 008

 

and will be 20% of your grade. 

 

These tests will be given online in the laboratory in LC102.  Please bring your USC ID to the test.  You will not be allowed to take the test without an USC ID.  The tests and final will be similar in nature to the non-proctored tests that you have already taken online.

 

You have the option of taking any test early on Tuesday’s during the normally scheduled class time in LC102.  Please notify your instructor at least three days in advance of your intention to take an exam early.

 

Computer laboratories:  You currently have computer access in LC401 and LC303a and LC102 where they are not being used for classes.  Please note that the computer laboratories are only open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.  We are currently in the process of trying to obtain additional laboratory access.  The software can be installed on your own computer, see www.coursecompass.com for details.  You will need to run the installation wizard and install

 

Help is available.   The software we are using as extensive help included.  There are video lectures, guided examples, study guides, free assistance in the evenings, see www.coursecompass.com. 

Prentice Hall's Math Tutor Center is staffed by college-level mathematics instructors who can help you with what you're learning.

As a MyMathLab student, you can register for the Tutor Center free of charge:

  • Call 1-800-435-4084 (5:00 PM-12:00 AM EST, Sun-Wed during summer; Sun-Thurs rest of the year).
  • When asked for a registration number, simply provide your MyMathLab course ID or student access code.

Local Help is also available.  Use all available outside resources, i.e. math lab, study groups, etc so that you understand the material.   You may also wish to use the Math Lab's free tutoring service.   Please check http://www.math.sc.edu/mathlab.html for locations, hours and holiday schedules.

Registering in CourseCompass

You will need the following materials to register and enroll in your

CourseCompass course:

Valid email address

Course ID (Get this from your instructor)

Student access code This code is contained in the CourseCompass Student

Access Kit that comes with your new textbook or that you purchase separately

in your campus bookstore. The kit usually bears the name of the textbook

being used for your class.

Registering with an access code

To register for CourseCompass when you already have an access code:

1 Go to the CourseCompass student registration and login page,

http://www.coursecompass.com. Click the Register button for students.

Make sure you have everything you need, and then click Next.

Do you have a Pearson Education account?

2 If you have previously registered for a Pearson Education educational website

or CourseCompass course that accompanied a textbook published by

Addison-Wesley, Allyn & Bacon, Benjamin Cummings, Longman, or Prentice

Hall before, click Yes and type in both your existing login name and your

password. Otherwise, leave No selected.

Tip When registering for Pearson Education online products, try to use the

same login name and password. By doing so, whenever you access the

Account Summary page your view will include ALL of the Pearson Education

products that you have registered for.

3 Type your six “word” student access code, one word in each box. Don’t type

the dashes.

Note Once you complete registration, you will not need to use this

information again.

7 In the Course ID box, type the course ID provided by your instructor. If you

10 Select your school from the School Name list, and click Next. If your school's

name doesn’t appear, scroll to the bottom of the list and click Other, then enter

the rest of the required information.

Your login name and password

11 Enter your desired login name. You may want to use your email address as

your login name because it is unique and easy to remember. Similarly, enter a

password.

Note Do not use punctuation marks or blank spaces.

Security question

12 Select a question and enter the answer.

License Agreement and Privacy Policy

13 Click the license agreement and privacy policy links to read this information.

14 Click Next.
