GSU-USC Commutative Algebra Seminar, September 2007
Atlanta, GA
September 16, 2007
The seminar represents a collaborative effort of commutative
algebraists at Georgia State University and University of South
Carolina to increase exposure of their research area in the South-East
through periodic meetings. Each term GSU and USC organize a local
seminar and a national one. This Fall, GSU will organize the local
seminar. There will be a national meeting in Columbia, SC in November
2007, see the following webpage. For some of the past seminars, see the following
links April 2007, March 2007 or Fall 2006 and
earlier.

When is tight closure determined by the test ideal?
Abstract:
We say that tight closure is determined by the test ideal in the ring
$R$ if $I^*=\tau I : \tau $ for every ideal $I$ in $R$. We show that
this is the case for every complete one-dimensional local ring $R$ with
infinite residue field. On the other hand, if $R$ is normal, complete
and Cohen-Macaulay with perfect residue field, tight closure is
determined by the test ideal if and only if $R$ is weakly F-regular.
This is joint work with Janet Vassilev.
