Attendance and Grading Policy
Although attendence may not be formally taken each class, it is
still the responsiblity of the student to attend each and every
class (both lectures and recitation). The attendance policy for this
class will be in accordance with the University policy. Failure
to attend class will affect your grade - for every 5 days of missed
class, your final grade will be reduced by one letter.
Grades:
60% from topic quizzes
40% from class work, class participation and homework quizzes
Grading scale: A (90-100), B(80-90), C(70-80), D(60-70), F(below 60)
Class Participation:
This course is designed to have students more involved during
the classroom time. It is by design that there will be less
lecture time and more student involvement. Worksheets and
in-class assignments are part of the course and will be
part of your overall grade.
Bring your book, class notes, and calculator to class each day.
Homework Assignments:
Homework and worksheets will be an essential part in learning
the material for this course. Homework will be assigned in class.
Although homework may not be collected each day, it is the
responsiblity of the student to be prepare to turn in their
homework each day.
Homework should be written out and answered completely. Just having
the answers written down is not acceptable; students should use
complete sentences and should show a significant amount of work.
No late assignments will be accepted.
Homework Quizzes
Homework Quizzes will generally be given on Wednesday and
will cover either a homework problem or a reading assignment
from the previous week. The instructor reserves the right to give
them at any time.
Answers to Homework Quizzes should be written out and answered
completely. Just having the answers written down is not acceptable; students should use
complete sentences and should show a significant amount of work.
There are no makeups for homework quizzes.
Topic Quizzes
Topic Quizzes will generally be given on Fridays. The instructor
reserves the right to give them at any time.
There will be approximately 12 topic quizzes throughout the semester.
You must pass each quiz with a 7 or better (out of 10). If you do
not pass a quiz, you will have two weeks to re-take the quiz.
You can only re-take a quiz twice. Any quiz that has not been
successful passed will result in a ZERO in the grade book. You may not
re-take a quiz twice in one day.
Days and times to make up quizzes will be announced in class. Office
hours can also be used to make up quizzes. Students must notify the
professor by email of the time, date and which quiz number they will be
making up - this notification must be made at least six hours before
the quiz is to be made up.
