Syllabus
Your assigned homework is Here. Once enough problems have
assigned a due date will be given. Be sure to do the problems daily so that you are not rushed at the end. Your Quizam questions
will be similar to homework problems and the problems in the book. So, as you read through the book, be sure to understand how to do the Supplementary
Problems related to the topics covered in class. There are many worked out problems in the book. These should help you solve any of the
Supplementary Problems.
Monday 1/14/08: What is Topology? We started our motivational example.
Wednesday 1/16/08: We finished our motivational example and defined a Topological Space. Start Reading Chapters 1-3. I will try to get
through most of this material by next Friday.
Friday 1/18/08: Chapter 1: Basic Set Notation. Product Sets and Relations. Ignore the section on COMPOSITION OF RELATIONS.
Homework problems 1-3 are due on Wednesday.
Wednesday 1/23/08: Chapter 1 Equivalence Relations. Next time we will formally discuss functions, bijections and equivalence of sets.
If necessary, we will finish chapters 1-3 on Monday. Quizam 1 will be on Friday 2/1/08. I'll post a review by this weekend. Have questions ready Wednesday.
Friday 1/25/08: Chapter 2 Functions, One-one, Onto, bijection, Image and Inverse Image. We will finish Chapters 1-3 on Monday.
Quizam number 1 will be Friday 2/1/08. From chapter 1, I will ask questions similar to the Solved Problems 1-16,24,25,26 and the Supplementary

The Quizam will consist of many short answer and True/False which test your working knowledge of the definitions and notation we have been using
in class. Then, there will be a couple of proof type questions. Turn in Homework problems (4)-(6) on Friday before the Quizam!

problems by this Wednesday. Monday, I will answer any questions you may have.
Wednesday 2/20/08: Quizam 2 Next Wednesday. From Chapter four we only discussed the real numbers, not the plane. Therefore, the quizam
will only have questions about the real line. From the book, practice problems 1, 2, 11-13, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 35, 38, 39, 42, 47, 48, 49, 55, 57, 59, 61, 63, 64.
