The South Carolina number theory community is pleased to announce the first installment of the Palmetto Number Theory Series (PANTS), December 9 and 10, 2006, at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. The Palmetto Number Theory Series is an opportunity for number theorists in the Southeast to hear about recent research in all areas of number theory. The meeting will run (roughly) 1-6 pm on Saturday, December 9, and from 9-12 on Sunday, December 10. It will consist of 1-hour plenary talks by Matthew Papanikolas (Texas A&M University) and Chris Skinner (Princeton University), as well as several shorter talks (to be determined). If you are interested in speaking at the first PANTS meeting, please e-mail a title and abstract to Nigel Boston (boston@math.sc.edu) before November 17. The organizing committee will be arranging a schedule of speakers and hope to accommodate most requests. Registration is free for all participants; graduate students are encouraged to attend. For details (including information on accomodations, parking, directions/maps to Columbia, local contacts, etc.) visit the meeting webpage: http://www.math.sc.edu/~boylan/seminars/palmetto.html It is expected that future meetings, to be held twice a semester, will be hosted by schools within South Carolina (the Palmetto State). Number theory faculty at Clemson University have applied for grant funding to begin in Fall of 2007.
