  • Prerequisite : Qualification through placement, or a grade of C or better in Math 111 or Math 115.

  • Text : Applied Calculus, by Hughes-Hallett, Gleason, Lock, Flath, et al.
    3rd ed., John Wiley and Sons, Inc.(2006).

  • Course objectives : Students will master concepts and solve problems on derivatives and integrals of elementary algebraic, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Students will use these notions to compute maxima, minima, rates of change, motion, work, area under a curve, and volume.

  • Homework : Homework will be assigned each lecture but not collected.

  • Quizzes: Weekly quizzes will be given based on the homework. Missed quizzes will not be made up.

    Letter grades will be assigned according to the following approximate scale unless otherwise noted:

    Note : The deadline to drop without a WF is Thursday, October 2.

  • Calculators : Calculators may be used homework, quizzes, and exams unless otherwise noted. The TI - 83 or TI - 84 graphing calculator is highly recommended. Nothing more powerful (for example, the TI - 89 or TI - 92) is allowed.

  • Other help resources : Math Lab (free drop-in tutoring at various locations on campus, including LeConte 105), Private tutors , On-line materials for courses   (122 websites from past semesters), Math library .

    Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program : Supplemental instruction sessions last 50 minutes and are open to all students in Math 122. The sessions meet in various rooms in the Thomas Cooper Library. The following table may also be found here.
