Text: Calculus, seventh edition,
by D. Varberg and E. J. Purcell.
Selected sections from Chapters 13-17 (sections 16.5,
16.6, 17.5, 17.6, and 17.7 are omitted).
Meeting times: TTh 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM
at 113 LeConte.
Exams: There will be three 1-hour exams
announced well in advance of their date (tentative dates Feb.13,
Mar.27, Apr.24). Each exam will be worth 100 points.
There are no makeup exams.
Final exam: There will be a final exam
worth 200 points on
Wednesday, May 9 at 2 PM. All students must
take the Final Exam.
Quizzes: There will be a ten-minute quiz
each week (usually Tuesdays). Each quiz will be worth 10 points. There
will be a total of 10 quizzes. In addition there will be 2 take home quizzes.
Your best 10 scores will be chosen to constitute a quiz grade of a possible
100 points. There will be no makeup quizzes.
Any missed quiz will be the one that you drop.
Homework: There will be homework problems
assigned but not graded. Quizzes will be based on homework problems.
Grading: You have a total of 600 possible
points: 100 points for each of the three 1-hour exams, 100 points for the
quiz, and 200 points for the Final Exam.
You will be able to drop the lowest “100 points”. This lowest “100
points” may be one half of the Final Exam. This gives you a possibility
of 500 points.
Your final grade will be determined from these 500 points as follows:
450-500: A 430-449:
B+ 400-429: B
380-399: C+ 350-379: C
330-349: D+ 300-329: D
000-299: F
ADA: If you have special needs as addressed
by the Americans with Disabilities Act and need any assistance please notify
the instructor immediately.
Academic Dishonesty: Just say NO.
Attendance: Regular class attendance is
important. Consistent with the USC Undergraduate Bulletin, a grade penalty
may be applied to any student missing more than three classes (10%) during
the semester.
