Kent State Mourns Loss of Isaac Perkins
R.I.P. Isaac, my endeared friend.

"I talk about how important my wife is to me and how passionate I am about everything I do. But until you actually are tested or have an opportunity to be tested, the truth is, you don’t know. What’s going to happen if tomorrow you wake up and there’s a tsunami or a hurricane? You don’t know. We can talk about it here at the table. Being on a university campus, we talk about theories, or what-ifs, but I’ve always been one of practice. The what-if happened to me, and this is what I’m doing about it. So ask me whatever other questions you want to ask me, and you know that whatever I give to you that’s who I am, that’s who I’ve been and that won’t change."

-Isaac Newton Perkins

My close friend, Isaac, also known as Zeke died on November 9, 2005 after battling a rare form of brain cancer of which there are supposedly only 20 recorded cases since the 1950's. He was perhaps the ultimate person: throughout his entire life no one knew of him having one enemy, never can anyone recall him talking bad about someone, he possessed an overwhelming optimism, his athletic talents marvelled many as he always won and emulated the competition, and his faith and personal relationship with the Lord were evident and always there to comfort or help others. A man of exceptional character superseding the rest, Isaac Newton Perkins will always hold a place in many hearts.

Life may seem unfair and cruel at times, yet as perplexing as it may be, I will always remember my treasured friend whom I am certain gazes down through the stars of heaven smiling at us as he worships the Lord. This weekend I will be a pallbearer at the funeral. Just two and half years ago for the first time in my life, I was a groomsman at a blessed wedding, and unfortunately now, I perform a different role for the same couple, pallbearer. Life is so precious; I ask that you share your love with those around you today. Cherish this life for it is certainly temporary, and you will see that despite being here for a moment, eternity awaits. So, choose to seek the Lord. Take the leap of faith, I promise you will not be disappointed. There is nothing that I can do except exclaim that He loves you so dearly.
