IMI Facilities

Image and Computational Laboratories

The research of IMI personnel is supported by computational and image processing facilities in the Industrial Mathematical Institute which are housed in Sumwalt College (Sumwalt 203-206).

The IMI maintains a high performance computing and graphics laboratory (Sumwalt 219-220) with secure limited access on a Gigabit network. The primary server for the center is an Apple G5 dual processor XServe with a 3.5 Terabyte X-Raid storage array (ARO DURIP 2003), supported by additional servers including both multiprocessor SGI Origin and SUN Sunfire, and corresponding server data vaults and back-up systems.

Numerous dual processor Apple G5's (ARO DURIP 2003) with high-endgraphics are available in the laboratory for research by IMI faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Additional computing architectures in the laboratory include a PSSC Labs 17 Processor Beowulf system (NSF SCREMS 2001), a 4 processor SGI ONYX II (USC office of Research 2001) with a dedicated FakeSpace virtual reality system, a PowerWall passive stereo display supporting four haptic devices (ONR DURIP 2001), and GHz Dell PowerEdge 4600 with 12 GBytes of SDRAM and 72 GBytes Storage (USC/SCREMS 2001).

In addition to the Apple G5 workstations, the IMI maintains SGI Octanes and high performance PC's.
