The research of IMI personnel is supported by computational and image
processing facilities in the Industrial Mathematical Institute which
are housed in Sumwalt College (Sumwalt 203-206).
The IMI
maintains
a high performance computing and graphics laboratory (Sumwalt 219-220)
with secure limited access on a Gigabit network. The primary
server for the center is an Apple G5 dual processor XServe
with a 3.5 Terabyte X-Raid storage array (ARO DURIP 2003), supported
by additional servers including both multiprocessor SGI Origin and
SUN Sunfire, and corresponding server data vaults and back-up
systems.
Numerous dual processor Apple G5's (ARO DURIP 2003) with
high-endgraphics are available in the laboratory for research by IMI
faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
Additional computing
architectures in the laboratory include a PSSC Labs 17 Processor
Beowulf system (NSF SCREMS 2001), a 4 processor SGI ONYX II (USC
office of Research 2001) with a dedicated FakeSpace virtual reality
system, a PowerWall passive stereo display supporting four haptic
devices (ONR DURIP 2001), and GHz Dell PowerEdge 4600 with 12 GBytes
of SDRAM and 72 GBytes Storage (USC/SCREMS 2001).
In addition to
the
Apple G5 workstations, the IMI maintains SGI Octanes and high
performance PC's.
