Abstract: This talk will discuss issues in A/D and D/A conversion of signals. The work of a collaborative research group consisting of the IMI (Industrial Mathematics Institute) at USC, Applied Mathematics at Princeton and Shannon Labs at AT&T Research will be reported. In particular, the talk aims to explain the reasons that single bit quantizers and oversampling are used in preference to Nyquist rate sampling and multi-bit quantizers. The issues center around immunity to circuit imperfections.
