Prof. Wolfgang Dahmen

Short Biography


Wolfgang Dahmen earned his Doctorate at the RWTH Aachen in 1976 and his Habilitation in Mathematics at the University of Bonn in 1981. He received a postdoctoral fellowship at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. He has held professorships at the University of Bielefeld, Free University of Berlin, and since 1992 at the Institute of Geometry and Practical Mathematics, RWTH Aachen.

Professor Dahmen has published over 140 research articles in the areas of Applied and Numerical Analysis, Approximation Theory, and Interdisciplinary Applications. His most recent interests are in multiscale techniques for operator equations. His research has been supported by NATO< the TMR Research Network and numerous DFG and DAAD grants. Professor Dahmen is a consultant on several IMI grants funded by the ONR and DoD, and currently serves on the Editorial Board for eight mathematical journals.

This year Professor Dahmen has been elected a member of the Nordrhein-Westfaelische Akademie der Wissenschaften.
