Default setup, personal start-up files
Departments of Mathematics & Statistics,
University of South Carolina
All accounts are created with the following default start-up files:
.cshrc
.login
If you regard yourself an expert in UNIX, you are welcome to edit
these files, otherwise please don't modify them.
Doing it so may cause unexpected results.
Also for experts:
The default X Window System start-up files are called
/usr/lib/X11/system.xsession
and
/usr/lib/X11/twm/system.twmrc
.
If you want to modify these, copy the files in your home directory,
name them as
.xsession
,
.twmrc
respectively, give them execute permission, and edit them as you please.
A piece of advice:
Before you do any editing of your setup files save them under another name.
Then if things don't work as you expected, you can simply (?!?) replace the
new files with their old working version.
